Health Land Asoke Spa Review ! (BKK Thailand 2016)

We went to try Health Land Spa @ Asoke , Bangkok last month (Mar 2016) when we were there !

It's very near our hotel and Terminal 21 / Asoke Station , about 10mins walk away !

Apparently we found out that Health Land is a big chain of Spa in Thailand and they have many locations ! This is just one of them .. :)

The first time we walked there , they told us its fully booked until the evening time which we couldn't make it cos have other plans ...

The second time, we were smarter !! Called to reserve first ... :) the number to call is on their web ..

First impression is like wow , this building so nice , is it even a spa ??! So big !! Haha.. Its a huge standalone building .. never seen a big scale spa before lol ..

Connecting to the building is they have a seperate shop ! 

Entering the white building , you'll see the reception. Which actually feels like a hotel !?!! 

So go to the reception to "check in" for your booking , confirm and make payment first  ...

The staff we met were quite fluent in English but seem flustered because it's very busy and crowded .. like a market .. 

Just take a look at how much sitting area they have !!!  ALL LEVEL ONE ONLY !! I think this place is like 5 storeys !!! 

They also bring tour buses here for massage so this place gets really packed .. 

So we just waited for our turn to be called .. Basically your name will be announced in the "Speaker System" and then you go and report to the coordinator.., so organised right .. Haha.. 

So we did : 

Therapeutic Massage

Time : 1 Hr.

Price : 350 Baht

Foot Reflexology

Time : 1 Hr.

Price : 300 Baht

We started with the Therapeutic Massage , this massage targets your area of pain and soothe the muscles .. we were led to the 2nd floor ... this place is huge ..

     

Entering one of the curtain rooms , we had the 1 hr massage . 

The masseuse asked me in quite good English : "what's your problem area today?"

I said neck and shoulders and back.. She did neck and shoulders and like 5 mins of back only .. Suppose to start massage at 5pm , Actually when we got in the room , changed and lay down , it was already 5.15pm cos there was waiting time downstairs at the reception .. 

So she did the massage only 45mins , ended on time at 6pm .. After finishing , then ask us to go downstairs and wait for the foot massage .. 

But overall quite OK , just felt abit rushed ... 

While we were waiting downstairs , they served us tea . and then a short blackout (no electricity) and people were kinda panicking .. we just waited and drank our tea haha .. lasted for about 20mins ..

The ladies called out our name once again and we took the lift up ..

We were brought to this super comfortable and cooling room for the foot massage !!! I think its the 5th floor ... Super Shiok !!! 

  

The foot massage was a full one hour massage despite the delay and IT FELT LIKE HEAVEN !!!

Cos our feet / legs were so damn sore from walking all days for the past few days ..

This foot massage is SO DAMN GOOD .. The pressure , the cooling air con , the strength of the massage , the price and the comfy chair + they have us a blanket (we fell asleep) is all PERFECT HAHAHAA.. very skilled techniques !!

One of the best foot massage we tried in Bangkok :) Maybe cos we got good masseuse and it was a really quiet room , less than 5 pax in the room with us .. We were so happy and relaxed that we tipped them too ! 

Overall we felt that it's value for money , clean and good massage , especially the feet massage , the other one was so-so but the feet one was sooooo goooood :)

After the massage ended, we were brought down and served tea again !

Okay, some introduction here, so... Dr Anga has been my family's trusted Plastic Surgeon in JB for a long long time (My extended family all resides in Johor) .. apparently my grandfather was the first to get things done.. by saying 'things' , nothing major -- just something like a simple eyelid surgery probably 10 years ago LOL so hip. So on, the rest of my fam got things done by him too, but all was nothing major, mostly face lifting and removal of oil bumps / moles etc ! But I heard he does other minor surgeries regarding vessels too . He is a very recognized and well respected doctor in Johor, win quite a lot of awards, as displayed in his clinic !

So everyone??? in JB goes to Dr Anga for cosmetic enhancements as he is the probably most well known around here and thus his schedule is jam packed every single day ! extremely hard to book an appointment !! But my aunts help we managed to get a slot in less than a month's wait. Haha !! 

WHY ?

My boy has been thoroughly concerned about his droopy eyelids for almost the whole of his life . As you can see from the pictures below , the BEFORE pic, he has one droopy eyelid and basically very sleepy looking eyes .......... and he always tell me he is sick of it HAHA. 

Actually, Dr Angka was not the first one we consulted regarding his one side droopy eyelids , during NS he consulted the National Eye Centre in Singapore, and they quoted him SGD 1000 per eye if they were going to do it for him, and it is not double eyelid !!! Its only pull up the eyelids to even out the look of the eyes !!! >.<

So I told him about Dr Anga and how my fam got things done by him, apparently my fam only trusts him. Haha.. so he decided to take a leap of faith and JUST DO IT !!

*now he has said this is the best thing he has ever done for himself. LOLOL

HOW?

First Visit : was in December 2014 -- nearing Christmas. We decided to go for consultation first. 

As usual, waiting for DR Anga appointment usually takes hours, we waited for 2 hours past our appt time this time round. Haha... and consultation took only 15 mins ! Just told him what we wanna do , then he quote us $$$ and "demo" to us on how the end result will look like by using a prick like thingy to lift up the eyelid folds .

Background Info : Types of Eyelid Surgery 

There are two types of eyelid surgery:

1) Incision (Cutting) and 2) Suture (Sewing) Technique.

Two things to put into consideration:

1) how long you want the fold to last & 2) the recovery period

1) Incision Method will definitely last longer as the surgeon will cut the excess skin away and sew the eyelids back together (straight forward saying). The results are more permanent and the surgeon has more control to remove extra skin and fat and design the fold height and shape ...

BIG BUT , the downtime takes a lot longer – possible swelling for more than a month, and could only fully heal after several months. There might be scars and it looks less natural as skin is removed like an operation !! 

2) Sewing Technique is a procedure that doesn't require going under the knife (OK, not majorly, but they will only cut 3 small holes). The double eyelids are created by a quick and simple procedure done under anaesthesia, and is completed in under an hour .

 GOOD THAT , minor wounds are created, the healing will take only a few days. The downtime from the scarless method is mainly from some swelling and occasional bruising. 

For our case, Dr Anga suggested the sewing method then so be it !! 

You can tell him how thick or thin you want it to be (your double eyelid fold) and also either parallel or tapered crease.. but he know how to judge so he will do the most suitable for your face,

AHHHHH !!! SURGERY DAY

I went with him that day . The entire surgery took less than 1 hour, under anesthesia thus cannot go alone, will need someone to fetch !

The waiting time for Dr Anga took about 2 hours , because he had a surgery before this. We insisted on him to do it as he is the most experienced, I think there is a few other doctors there.

The actual surgery time was less than 1 hour, I was waiting outside for him . 

After that , then a nurse came up (the operation room is downstairs) and asked me to go downstairs to see him .

He was lying on the bed & very drowsy -- i kept asking him pain or not, he say not pain but very very drowsy . I think the anesthesia was quite strong !

Frankly I was quite scared at first because the eyes look very uneven and one is swelling so much more than the other !

Then before we left the clinic we asked the nurse HOW?!! WHAT IF REALLY UNEVEN?! *shock face* The nurse just say , wait for 2 months - if really uneven then come back again ! Can do some re-stitch for free .. but no free anesthesia next time ...... wah :o

The nurse gave him painkillers & antibiotics for healing , medicine to last 7 days. 

AFTER THE SURGERY 

Fetched him back to the hotel to rest - stayed at KSL that day 

(side note: KSL apartment 3 bedrooms - very spacious & comfortable && very cheap ! Is about $120/night only hee hee) 

He felt giddy / drowsy and didnt have much appetite the entire day. The surgery completed at 4pm . Reach back hotel 4.30pm. So he slept from then till about 9pm , woke him up for his dinner. 

After the anesthesia wore off , he gradually felt pain. But still bearable..

NECESSITIES 

1) I also bought him FISH ESSENCE - from Eu Yang Sang  LOL I heard it helps to heal faster !!

*he is a slow healer -- takes forever to recover from pimples...... :x

He took 1 bottle everyday for 6 days :D

2) MANY MANY ICE PACKS !!!

He put overnight and keep on changing. Need for the de-swell.. MUST USE.. LIFE SAVER

DAY 1

"its like something pulling my eyelids - cannot close properly" for the first night 

There is no bleeding though , dried blood stains... just a very bad swelling !! So uneven I was so scared! The key is eyes will be very itchy or irritated , DO NOT RUB

DAY 2 : 

Back at Home. Think the swelling decreased a lot !!!

Because he keep spam Ice Packs and also drink a lot of water -- also Im sure my fish essence helped lol.

Minimal Pain - Still Must Spam ICE PACKS!!!!

We went to 4D3N KRABI with our friends somemore, about 7 days after his surgery !! HAHAA

Swimming in the Sea wasn't a problem. 

Just be sure to wear sunglasses and refrain from rubbing eyes.

*this is the time I think it looks more and more natural ..
But almost none of his colleagues or friends realised that he went to do this ! HAHAHAAA 

Now it looks very natural already !!! and its significant difference ... hahaa... my parents keep saying lucky he go & do , add marks LOL .. 

Anyway if really droop again or uneven, can go back and do again.. lol... heheeeee. Just refrain from touching eyes area thats all . Pain level he say is about 6/10 or so.. 

The worst day was the 1ST DAY. All the others is manageable ! (his own experience!)

MKB Review Ma Kuang TCM Slimming (Ma Kuang Biotech)

Sorry for not being updated on my posts as I'm extremely busyyyyy with setting up my own website for my company and still working at the same time .... stay tuned for that :)

Anyway just to share an experience with you, and also for me to record my own progress , I have been going for TCM Slimming Sessions at Ma Kuang Biotech (MKB) by Ma Kuang Group ! 

Actually the reason why I am going for this TCM treatments is to lose wight (of course) most importantly because in recent times I've been feeling really lethargic , tired easily, breath not enough and especially bloatedness and indigestion and all that .. I also don't know why ! Maybe overworked / lack of sleep etc .

Anyway , I am extremely happy to have found MKB for my treatments in slimming, and helping me to recover my overall well being .

Some of you may know about the Ma Kuang Group ! 

One of the reasons I chose Ma Kuang is because of their establishment , they have lots of clinics locally and people know them well for their TCM , can say is one of the top in Singapore , ask your parents or grandparents , they confirm know !

So I think they started this thing recently, the MKB, which specialises in the TCM Slimming, Stomach Tunia, Beauty treatments such as gua sha facial all that ...

The MKB I go to is at Pacific Plaza, which is really near my office and convenient for me :) Its just beside Shaw Centre ! Right in centre of town. On the 6th floor (address below).

That's the consultation room - where you will meet the 医师 every beginning of the treatment ....

So how is the process ?

I signed up for the basic package first, which is 6 times Tui Na and 6 times Acupuncture 

1st Consultation: 

Meet the Doctor , who take your "mai" which is your pulse and the doctor 医师 sort of interview you about your diet, lifestyle and they can tell your body condition. 

The doctors are quite experienced and you can ask them on a lot of tips on TCM how to improve your body (do what eat what) , and by seeing your tongue and taking your pulse , they can tell .... Apparently my body condition not very good la ! Everyday I also got body ache, but nobody knows, but she can tell like saying if i'm out of breath recently or not enough sleep, haha. 

For the first time consultation, If i remember correctly is $38 for mine.. 

It include 30 mins Tui Na and 30 min Acupunture ! So total treatment time is 1 hour.

Oh, everytime I go, the first thing to do is step onto a "Body Analyzer" Machine which generates a report on your fat content, water retention, weight, muscle mass all that, so its quite cool. 

The doctor will explain to you each session about your progress. You will have a sort of like report card kept with them for every visit... Which I think is very good because you can track your fat content going down (for me) , I think it quite a happy thing. Lol 

So for the 30min Tui Na, 

WARNING : IT HURTS very much !!

Because the very first time I do, my stomach was bloated like hell. The doctor tell me the reason why my stomach so bloated is because of my intestinal blockage, this one I really CAN FEEL IT . And really glad I found out the reason why .

Because I really can't digest foods properly after meal and feel very bloated especially after eating , but whatever I drink (ginger tea, green tea) also wont go down :( 

So actually I'm really happy to find the cause and all my tui na sessions hurt like hell because my therapist really use alot of force on my stomach to "tong" clear the "jin mai" blood flow and to clear my intestinal blockages .

So far after going for 4 sessions, i feel so much better, I rarely suffer from bloatedness nowadays and I am so happy !!!! Because I have flatter tummy now due to less air !! :D

For the 30 Min Tui Na, 

my therapist will do stomach Tui Na , and Ba Guan (Cupping) , sometimes will do Gua Sha -- depends on the therapist . With a heating lamp on top of your stomach ...

She will do Tui Na first, followed by Gua Sha if there is, then end with Ba Guan for 10mins (which hurt like hell also) -- because of my intestinal blockages..

Damm horrible.... Is probably the most pain I ever felt ! Damm F painful for the first time...

SO MUCH BETTER NOW !!! --- same duration of time, but the blood flow so much better .....

Here shows the marks of my Gua Sha (Scrapping) :

I know my stomach damm hideous , paiseh ! But is for my own health and wellbeing !!!

These marks usually stay for 4 days or so, It will start fading slowly day after day ,

First time I do, I got orh cheh (blue black) on my stomach sia ! and feel super duper suan , sore stomach for 3 days .... I thought something wrong ! So I call back to ask, actually is normal, because the blood flow and qi of your body and stomach is being adjusted , and also the flow of the intestines too... 

Normally after do this will feel weird for 2 days, then revert back to normal already, the effect will take place in 2 days !!

For the 30 min Acupuncture, It is done by the Doctor, 

actually now I know, is called ELECTRO-ACUPUNCTURE .

Because after poking all the acupuncture in , not only at the stomach, but from top to toe, depends on your requirement that day, is determined by the doctor, I usually have about 20 to 30 needles .. (not that I count) but ya.....

After the needles are in, the doctor will attach the metal clips like those below , to some of the needles at the tummy area, (NOT ALL) then these will send like electrical pulses to the needles in your tummy. 

I know it sounds scary !!!! But actually acupunture is not painful, just some needles will feel sore !

The pulses, you can ask the doctor to adjust the strength !!

Then she will leave you there to rest for 30 mins.. under the heated lamp while the pulses go on... there;s a beeper when time is up .. don't worry someone will come and save you.

The therapists are friendly, and I always ask on what to eat, what to do, what to watch out for, they are all quite knowledgeable ! All in chinese.. 

first time, not so used to, few times later, can even fall asleep within that 30mins. hahaha ^^

To record my progress : After 4 sessions for myself , I have gone down 3kg ! Permanently !!

 (Guilty of not watching my diet all the time and Not exercising as much as I should) 

If not the results could be better ! I go once a week !

But the KEY POINT IS : I feel much healthier now !!!!

My stomach is no longer bloated , I really could feel the difference :D and I'm so happy ! I feel like I have more energy throughout the day too ^^ Very important point to note is to avoid cold water because they say it will freeze up your blood flow again, thus must re-"tong" again...

My boyfriend say there is a lot of difference too and he used to be very worried about my indigestion problems, now he say really much better already! So he will continue sponsoring.. HAHAHA

UPDATES: 

BA-GUAN: Because my shoulders are in such bad condition - sometimes do already will have orh-cheh .... 

BACK TU-NIA & BA-GUAN ; abit scary but this is how bad my back is and how my back looks after treatment , this one is a better one already , the first time I do even got blood come out omg! 

These take about 1 week to fade off. But I always feel that must do BA-GUAN during treatment then the session will be effective !!! Although ugly but it really helps a ton on my blood circulation and energizes me .. Gua sha is not every time .. :)

(Went there with a group of friends beginning of Feb 2015 - A fantastic stay) 

I would say that I have toned quite a lot , especially obvious on the legs .. Tummy too ! So I felt that it was pretty good treatments working for me, but everybody's body is different.. I completed 12 sessions of treatments once a week :) (12 acupuncuture & 12 tui-na , baguan & guasha) -- each time is about SGD 100 . Weight loss not so much , about 4kg there about , but priority for me is my body circulation and functioning back in action , stomach blockage is cleared - no more extreme bloating after meals ! Feel much more alive & active now :)
